TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) A Temple High School senior girl powerlifter is the new holder of the state record for her weight division.

Timmea Joiner, a member of the THS Powerlifting Team, has been lifting since middle school and she now is a THS senior.

In March she competed at the state championship for her weight division and won.

Joiner also set a record in her division for the deadlift at 455 lbs. and the total lift of 1050 lbs.

Temple ISD says this is the first time a student from Temple High School has set a state record in powerlifting.

"I had to keep going in my head like I really just broke a record and it's not even funny,” Joiner said.

“I was more sad than happy because I was like ‘Oh! I could've done more,’ you know, instead of just beating it by 5 lbs.

“I could've done a lot more," Joiner said.

Joiner plans to attend college and play volleyball, but said she'll continue to compete in powerlifting.
