A woman shot a teenager as she and her father chased three suspects they found breaking into the woman’s car in the driveway of her parents’ home Monday night in Temple, police said Tuesday.

Officers responded at around 7:50 p.m. to the area of 11th Street and French Avenue in Temple after receiving a report of a suspicious person.

The woman told them that she parked her vehicle in the driveway of her parents’ home and left her purse inside with the doors unlocked, police spokeswoman Shawana Neely said Tuesday.

A short time later, the family’s dogs began to bark and she and her father went outside where they found three males breaking into the vehicle, Neely said.

The three ran and the woman and her father gave chase.

“The female had a pistol and fired one shot that struck one of the males in the leg,” Neely said.

The 15-year-old boy was taken to Scott & White Medical Center with what Neely said were non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two suspects escaped.

The break-in and the shooting are under investigation.

No names were released Tuesday.
