Mitchell’s wife found her husband dead Wednesday evening after returning home.

Officers were searching for a 2014 silver Volkswagen Jetta in connection with the deadly shooting, which was reported at around 6 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 2200 block of East Young Avenue.

Just after 10 p.m. Wednesday, an officer spotted the VW driving by the murder scene.

Police gave chase as the driver headed east on Highway 53, but at some point officers lost sight of the vehicle.

“A short time later officers were advised by dispatch of a crash involving the vehicle,” police spokeswoman Shawana Neely said Thursday.

“It was learned that a citizen had a male juvenile subject detained at the scene,” she said.

The teenager was taken first to McLane Children’s Hospital and then released into police custody, she said.

He was then taken to the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center where a hold was placed on him for murder, she said.

No further details were not released.
