If you've received a suspicious phone call in recent days, police are warning not to fall for a phone scam.

Temple police say they have seen an increase in calls related to phone scams.

"If you receive a call from the Social Administration, the Internal Revenue Service or a police agency claiming they have your relative in custody, use diligence when providing your information," police said on Facebook.

Police added that it is not common for any of the agencies to accept retail store gift cards as a form of payment.

If you ever feel like you have received a potential phone scam, do not provide any personal information or money until you have verified their information.

In the Facebook comments, many residents stated they have received numerous calls from a 1-800 number and another from a Texas area code.
