WACO, Texas (KWTX) As the countdown to his retirement continues, Rusty Garrett is being honored for serving the youth in his community.

Garrett was recognized by the Texas Farm Bureau Thursday afternoon with a celebratory rally at the company's headquarters in Waco.

"Today I had the honor of being recognized by the Texas Farm Bureau, who faithfully partnered with me on Project Tornado for many years," said Garrett. "I was so honored to attend this rally at company headquarters, giving me the opportunity to thank those fine folks for years of assisting me in not only my school safety program, but the big donations they make in our annual Toys for Tots drive!"

He was given a custom-made cake with his photo on top and icing around it that read "Congratulations Rusty We Will Miss You!!!"

"I'm so proud to have been a partner with this great company for almost two decades!" he said. "On behalf of Channel 10 and the U.S. Marine Corps, thanks Texas Farm Bureau for your faithful support."

Garrett announced his retirement earlier this month.

He's held the position of chief forecaster at KWTX News 10 since 1989.
