Texas boy, 14, shot by twin aiming for snake dies

DAYTON, Texas (AP) A 14-year-old Southeast Texas boy who was accidentally shot as his twin brother fired at a snake in a drainage ditch has died, authorities said Wednesday.

The boy died Tuesday night at a Houston hospital, the Liberty County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

Investigators say the twins on saw the snake Monday afternoon in a water-filled ditch and the retrieved two .22-caliber rifles from their home near Dayton.

Deputy John Tucker says one of the teens suddenly bent over toward the snake at the same time his brother aimed and fired.

Tucker says the victim was struck in the head.

The injured teenager was flown to a Houston hospital after he was shot at around 4 p.m. Monday.

Sheriff's officials say at this time they don't anticipate any charges being filed.
