Police on Wednesday identified the man accused of randomly targeting a 5-year-old girl inside a McDonald's play area and stabbing her in the stomach as 25-year-old Isaac Dorfman.
The El Paso Fire Department confirmed to local TV station KVIA that the girl suffered serious wounds.
Paramedics transported the girl to University Medical Center in El Paso, the only Level 1 trauma center in the region.
She was later transferred to El Paso Children's Hospital, where she underwent surgery. Police said the girl is now in stable condition.
The stabbing was reported just before 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said Dorfman fled on foot, but was found hiding in a nearby motel room at about 3:15 p.m.
Dorfman is charged with injury to a child. His bond was set at $500,000.
