Police say one person is dead and several are injured following a three-vehicle crash in Sherman.

Sherman police Sgt. Brett Mullen said the accident happened at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 82 westbound between FM 1417 and Travis Street.

Three vehicles and four people were involved.

Mullen said an SUV with two people inside was headed east on Highway 82 when it crossed the median and hit another SUV head-on.

A passing truck then hit the two SUVs.

Mullen said one vehicle caught on fire, which was quickly put out.

All four people involved in the crash were taken to the hospital.

Police said 62-year-old Joe Lawrence Ross of Denison died at the hospital.

Ross was a passenger in the SUV that crossed the median.

Mullen said the three others are expected to survive their injuries.

Police are still investigating if weather was a factor.

"It was raining we know that, but it's too early to know if that was the cause of the crash," Mullen said.

"That's the purpose of having the investigation team come out to determine exactly what caused the crash and hopefully those are details we will learn very soon in the investigation."
