TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Traffic was diverted for hours Sunday on Interstate 35 in Temple after an eight-vehicle accident, but the highway was cleared by around 9:30 p.m.
The accident was reported at around 1:40 p.m. Sunday just north of the Adams-Central Avenue exit, Temple Fire & Rescue spokesman Thomas Pechal said, and involved vehicles on both sides of the highway.
The primary crash, in the northbound lanes, involved two tractor-trailers, one of which caught on fire and burned.
The non-hazardous cargo in the trailer was destroyed.
A total of 14 people were involved in the crashes.
Two people were taken to the hospital.
Traffic was backed up on both sides of the highway and drivers were advised to find alternative routes.
Emergency crews say, the center retaining wall was damaged and there was small fuel spill that crews were making arraignments to have cleaned up as quickly as possible.
Grones Environmental is responding for remediation.
