Authorities in Tyler are investigating after a train struck and killed a man who evidently was sleep on the tracks early Friday morning.

It happened shortly before 5a.m. Friday near the intersection of Bellwood Street and Whiteside Road.

According to police, the train crew blew the horn multiple times, but couldn’t come to a stop fast enough to avoid hitting the victim.

The victim’s identity has not been released.

Tyler police and Union Pacific are investigating.
