A middle school student died Friday when a Union Pacific train hit a school bus at a crossing in Athens, the Athens ISD confirmed.
A second student, a girl who attends Central Athens Elementary School, was flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Dallas, the district said.
The bus driver was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
“We ask that you join with us in humbly praying for their families,” the district said in a statement.
No other students were aboard the bus.
The crash occurred just after 4 p.m. at the Murchison Street crossing in Athens.
