TROY, Texas (KWTX) A new Love’s Travel Center is coming to Central Texas.

The Troy City Council approved the final plat for the construction of the travel stop on the southbound side of Interstate 35 near Pleasant View Road.

The original Love’s station in Troy closed in 2012 during the expansion of Interstate 35.

Troy Senior Administrator Jeff Straub said Love’s has been planning their comeback for the last five years, and made the strategic decision to start building the new station now that construction is toward completion.

The Texas Department of Transportation has been constructing new turn-arounds in Troy. The overpass near the new fuel station will be called Love’s Boulevard.

Straub said the new station will positively impact the economy of Troy, a small town of 2,200 people.

“First of all ad valorem taxes because the value of it is substantial, but also sales tax, people making purchases,” he said.

The new Love’s will also include a tire station and restaurants. Straub said,

“The local community is excited because it'll have a McDonald's and Subway as well, so they don't have to drive to Temple for those things.”

The Love’s will be one of the few truck-friendly stops in the area.

“Love’s specializes in catering to the needs of professional truck drivers and commercial rigs, where those are prohibited at places like Buc-ee’s, so it’s a niche market but one I think will do very well here in Troy,” Straub said.

Straub said a pre-construction meeting will be held next week, and they could begin groundbreaking that same day.

The project is expected to take about 6-8 months, and could be complete this year.

“Love’s is excited to come back, and we’re excited to have them,” Straub exclaimed.
