Two Texas teens killed, 2 injured in late-night crash
Two Texas teenagers are dead and two others are injured after a late-night crash at the intersection of FM 349 and U.S. 259 Business in iKilgore.
The Department of Public Safety identified the dead as Gabriel Coronado, 17, of Longview, and Braden Jones, 17, of Kilgore.
A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year old girl who were riding in the 2004 Nissan Altima that Coronado was driving were taken to Good Shepard Medical Center with what the DPS said were non-life-threatening injuries.
Coronado, Jones and the other two teens were westbound on FM 349 just before midnight when Coronado ran a red light at the intersection with US 259, the DPS said.
The Nissan struck the trailer of an 18-wheeler driven by Michael James Wright, 49 of Hallettsville.
Coronado died at the scene.
Jones died later at Good Shepard Medical Center.
“Troopers had attempted to stop the Nissan for a traffic violation traveling westbound on IH-20,” the DPS said in a press release.
“For a yet to be determined reason, the driver of the vehicle chose to evade officers and exited the interstate on FM-2087 and continued south to FM-349 then west before crashing,” the DPS said.
