Two drivers who were critically injured on April 29 in a crash east of Axtell have died, the Department of Public Safety said Tuesday.
Richard Raines, 58, of Dawson and Carol Cornelius, 76, of Mount Calm, were taken to local hospitals after the crash at around 4:30 p.m. on April 29 on State Highway 31 at FM 2311, DPS Sgt. Ryan Howard said Tuesday.
Raines was driving a Nissan pickup south on FM 2311 when he failed to stop at the stop sign and pulled into the path of the eastbound Ford pickup that Cornelius was driving, Howard said.
The Ford struck the Nissan and Raines, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, Howard said.
The crash remains under investigation, Howard said.
