Two human-trafficking victims rescued in raid on local spa
McLennan County deputies rescued two Asian women who authorities say were victims of sex-trafficking after serving a search warrant Thursday at a spa in Waco.
“We got them out of that situation and to a safe place,” McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said.
Acting on a citizen tip, deputies, accompanied by representatives of the group UnBound and several interpreters, served the warrant at around 9 a.m. at the Rose Spa at 201 Hewitt Dr. inside Westrock Centre.
“You’d think they'd learn their lesson, but they haven’t," said McNamara.
"We’re going to keep trying to teach them."
No arrests were immediately made, however, McNamara said they're going after the owners, who may be on the West Coast.
McNamara said the undercover investigation, which they opened about two weeks ago, is still in the early stages.
He said the women they rescued lived at the location and did not speak English.
They're currently in the custody of UnBound.
"It’s a sad situation," he said.
