Rain was likely a factor in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 281 about 10 miles north of Hamilton that left two women dead.
Rain was falling when the accident occurred just before 11 a.m. Saturday, Department of Public Safety Sgt. David Roberts said.
A southbound 2015 Honda Civic lost traction on the wet highway and crossed into the northbound lane and into the path of a 2015 Ford pickup, which struck the side of the Civic, Roberts said.
The driver of the Honda, Wanda Wehmeyer, 57, of Little Elm, and her passenger, Jamie Gutierrez, 36, of McKinney, bot died at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, Randy McKinney, 50, of Cleburne, was taken to Hamilton General Hospital with what Roberts said were “non-incapacitating injuries.”
“In light of this unfortunate tragedy, Texas DPS would like to remind motorists the importance of slowing down during times of inclement weather,” Roberts said.
“Motorists should only drive at a speed that is safe for the conditions at the time.”
