KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Police were looking for three to four suspects Wednesday after two women were attacked and robbed in a Killeen city park.

Officers were dispatched to Metroplex Hospital at around 8:40 p.m. Monday in response to the assault, which occurred about 20 minutes earlier at Lions Club Park, police said Wednesday.

The injured victims told officers they were returning to their vehicle after walking on the exercise path at the park when three or four males wearing hooded sweatshirts and basketball shorts assaulted them and stole a backpack from the car.

Information about the victims' injuries wasn't released.

No further details were provided.

Martha Henry has been going to the park for years.

She says she used to walk in the evening but had to switch to mornings because of her work schedule.

She says she felt pretty safe until now.

"People come out here with their family and their children to just relax and let their children enjoy being outside or either get their fitness in, Henry said.

"But I guess even with paring up you're still not safe."

The City of Killeen says the park does not have security cameras, but the exercise paths have pretty good lighting.

The city takes this incident very seriously and will evaluate what additional safety measures could be needed.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS.
