Students showoff their reading skills at Dr. Seuss Day in Valley Mills!

Central Texas schools joined others across America celebrating the birthday of the late children's book author Friday (a day early).

With a motto of the "greatest school on earth," Valley Mills Elementary School went all-out for the event, illustrating the importance of reading by creating excitement about it with decorations, costumes, and of course: books.

"Reading is the foundation of all life events and activities, and we always try to provide our students with opportunities to spark their interest in reading," said Principal Chris Dowdy. "We appreciate everyone who participates in our Seuss Day to support our students and their academic success."

Throughout the day, local personalities came to read their favorite books to the kiddos including 'Fixer Upper's' Jimmy Don Holmes, the owner of JDH Iron Designs who went to VMES as a child, football players from Baylor and UMHB, and KWTX's Taina Maya and Rissa Shaw.

Shaw, who read to the second graders in Mrs. Kasey Pate's class, showed up with a special surprise.

Magnolia loaned her an advanced copy of Joanna Gaines' new children's book, We Are the Gardeners!, to read to the students before it's released publicly.

Gaines wrote the beautifully illustrated book, based on an experience the family had with gardening, with her children.

Students in the class of around 20, loved the motivational tale and when it ended immediately understood it's message and meaning, sharing their own experiences with gardening and asking questions - most of them knew about Jo and her husband Chip and had seen their hit HGTV show.

Pate, a huge fan of the couple and their talent, message, and show that transformed Waco, is pregnant with her first child and was overjoyed she and her students were among the first to read We Are the Gardeners!, and gave Shaw a student-signed, Dr. Seuss 'thank you' card.

Wacoans will also get to read the book early.

Magnolia will be hosting a two-night, after-hours event at the Silos in downtown Waco for the launch.

The March 14 & 15 launch kicks-off Magnolia's annual "Spring at the Silos" which runs March 14-16.

Attendees can purchase copies at the event - signed by Jo - ahead of the book's nationwide release March 26.
