WACO, Texas (KWTX) Patrick Posey, who coached soccer and taught biology at Midway High School for more than 15 years, lost a nearly yearlong battle with cancer early Wednesday morning.
School officials told Posey’s players about the death early Wednesday and later shared the news with other students and staff.
"It is with heavy heart that we share with you the passing of a member of our MHS family, Coach Patrick Posey," Midway High School Principal Alison Smith said in a message to students and staff.
"Coach Posey was a wonderful teacher, coach, father and man of faith. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers."
Counselors were available Wednesday for students and teachers.
Funeral arrangements were pending.
In May 2017 Posey was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
The community rallied around Posey and his family, hosting a 5K and 1-milme fun run to raise money to help with medical bills.
Patrick’s wife Susan, teaches at Hewitt Elementary School.
He was the father of three girls, one with special needs.
Posey was named district coach of the year in 2016.
