Jessica Simpson was in Waco Saturday afternoon promoting her new clothing line, but also giving back to the community.

Simpson was at the Dillard’s inside Richland Mall where they held a fashion show and meet-and-greet. At the end of the fashion show, the singer surprised the Boys and Girls Clubs of Waco with a check for $10,000.

Simpson had recently designed an original t-shirt for which all the proceeds benefited the Boys and Girls Clubs of Waco.

Brad Sharp, Board Chairman of the nonprofit, said the donation will significantly help during this season.

"It's coming at great time, going into summer looking at adding programs. Having a lot more kids this summer, we're gonna need more staff," Sharp said.

He explained that the coming season is a more crucial time because parents are working during the summer. “Kids need a safe place to go, but it's gonna be great,” he said.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Waco Executive Director James Jarmon said he was surprised to receive the generous donation.

"We had 3 of the kids from the club in it, but to get a check, that was the icing on the cake. We weren't expecting that at all," Jarmon said.

The director expressed his gratitude for Simpson’s generosity to her home state. “We’re so grateful, we just want to thank Jessica Simpson’s team and KWTX for all the support,” said Jarmon.

Simpson’s new fashion line includes clothes for women, juniors, and babies.
