The Waco City Council is accepting applications from residents interested in replacing a member who’s moving to a another neighborhood that’s not in the district he represents.

Dist. 4 Councilman Dillon Meek will remain on the council until a successor is appointed.

Meek is running for mayor and if the May election hadn’t been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the move wouldn’t have been an issue.

But because he’s moving out of Dist. 4, he must step down from the council.

The council started accepting applications on Wednesday and residents have until 5 p.m. on June 17 to apply.

Information and applications are available online.

Virtual candidate interviews via Zoom are tentatively scheduled during council meetings at 3 p.m. on June 23 and 3 p.m. on June 30.
