WACO, Texas (KWTX) The nonprofit Inspiración launched a new early-childhood program Wednesday at Alta Vista Elementary School in Waco.
Inspiración is an organization devoted to helping parents prepare their children from birth to 3 years of age for kindergarten.
The organization provides classes and home visits to help families prepare their children for school, helping primarily Latino families in the Waco ISD.
“Many of the families we serve don't speak English or speak a limited amount of English and so we are hoping that through this program when they are able to find that community that family that they are looking for to help them get involved in their sons and daughters education career," Inspiración board President Hector Sabido said.
Inspiración currently serves 13 families and has partnered with Transformation Waco and Prosper Waco to help provide the classes and home visits.
Baylor University has also partnered with the Inspiración.
In the last eight months, Inspiración has raised more than $200,000 for the program.
With the funds the program was able to build and supply a portable at Alta Vista Elementary where the classes are held and to fund two staff positions.
The hope is to serve more families over the next couple of years.
Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson said this is a way they can help provide the best education to all children before they begin to attend public school.
