Central Texas dog owners are left with fewer options to exercise and socialize their pets as one of the few dog parks in Waco has shut down.

The H.O.T. Dog Park closed on New Year's Day.

Park-goers were notified by a sign on the fence of the property at 4900 Steinbeck Bend Rd. which said the park was closed effective Jan. 1.

It was opened in 2011 for the public to use for free.

Veterinarian Dr. Lu Ann Ervin, DVM, owns and maintains the property which is now for sale.

Ervin, who recently retired, was the veterinarian at Texas Animal Medical Center next door to the park.

TAMC staff members say they're looking for options to keep the park open or start a new one.
