WACO, Texas (KWTX) NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s appearance next week at McLennan Community College in Waco has been canceled because of Abdul-Jabbar’s illness, the school announced Thursday.

No details were provided.

Abdul-Jabbar's representative told KWTX Thursday the former player is "OK" and doesn't have anything that's life-threatening, but wouldn't elaborate.

Abdul-Jabbar was to have spoken on the MCC campus next Tuesday as part of the McLennan Distinguished Lecture Series.

No decision has been made about whether to reschedule the event.

Tickets, which were free, may be discarded, the school said.

Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, a six-time NBA champion, and the league’s only six-time MVP, contributes columns regularly to newspapers and magazines.
