A fire at an electric substation at North 27th Street and Colonia Avenue left more than 10,000 Waco customers without power Thursday afternoon, according to Oncor’s online outage map.
Waco firefighters doused the flames.
The outages were spread across an area from downtown Waco past Lake Air and Waco Drive, police said.
By 4:45 p.m. Thursday, about 6,200 customers were reported to be without power and by 5:30 p.m. service had been restored to all but a few customers.
The outage was more than just an inconvenience for some residents.
Firefighters responded just before 4 p.m. to a report of people trapped in an elevator between the second and third floors in an office building at 801 Austin Ave. in downtown Waco.
