Tank, a 50 pound English bulldog, is a therapy dog in training and he is sharing his love with TSTC students.

His owner, TSTC therapist Colby Walters, says she thought Tank would be the perfect fit to help students in their counseling sessions.

“It is so magical to see how students’ attitude changes when they interact with Tank,” Walters said.

“He will be walking down the hall and there are just instant smiles.”

Walters says mental health is a concern nationwide especially among college students.

According to American Psychological Association nearly 50 percent of students say they have experienced anxiety and more than 30 percent are depressed.

Walters says anxiety is something she sees quite often in her patients so she tries to do everything possible to help them through it.

Tank has proven to be a willing helper in the process.

“I had a student who had so much anxiety and Tank went and sat between his legs and he was just petting him and you could just see the anxiety leave his body,” Walters said.

Walters says Tank attends all campus outreach events so he is able to interact with more students.
