WACO, Texas (KWTX) The cold front arrived at about the same time as Waco’s annual Veterans Day parade was starting Monday, but the threat of chilly weather didn’t deter residents from lining the street as school bands, floats and cars carrying veterans and dignitaries paraded down Austin Avenue to City Hall.
Army veteran Ben Hernandez was pleased at the size of the crowd.
"They recognize that veterans are important that we're a part of this country. You know without the veterans, without the military the backbone you know, that's who defends the United States against enemies foreign and domestic."
Marine Veteran Nicolas Byrer says veterans are not always treated well so today was a great day.
"Honestly and truthfully I think we're all appreciated from time to time and there are some days that we get batted down but it comes with the job and we take it as it comes."
"I think overall for us veterans it's getting better and better. For the veterans from before in the past it was really tough but now as it goes along it's getting a lot better for us."
