A man who was burned in an early-morning house fire Sunday in Waco has been transferred to a Dallas hospital.

The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered second-degree burns in the fire.

He was taken first to a local hospital and then was transferred to the burn unit of Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

The fire was reported at around 8:20 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of North 23rd Street.

Desiree Garrett was inside the home at the time of the fire.

"I woke up to my door being tugged at. When I woke up, there was smoke engulfing the house. You couldn't see or breathe," she said.

The cause has not been determined.
