Police Monday identified two men who were taken to a local hospital after they were shot Sunday evening as they walked along a Waco street as Darrin Dawkins, 37, and Heath Waggoner, 23.

Dawkins was shot once in the abdomen and Waggoner was shot in both legs, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Monday.

Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

They were both taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center.

Officers responded to the shooting at around 5:40 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Sherman Street.

After he was shot, Dawkins walked to the D&M gas station at 501 East Waco Dr. in search of help.

Officers found Waggoner at the intersection of Sherman and Ashburn streets.

The victims told officers that a man began shooting at them as they were walking.

“Neither victim could give a reason why the suspect shot at them,” Swanton said.

No one has been arrested.
