Waco: Annual Police Memorial Run held at Brazos Park East
Saturday morning the Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association hosted their annual Police Memorial Run at Brazos Park East in Waco.
The 5k and 10k runs are held each year to commemorate the officers killed in the line of duty, while also recognizing the daily commitment of officers to the Waco community.
"It helps us to remember the officers that have lost their lives in the line of duty," said Terry Williams, President of the Alumni Association. "Luckily here in Waco we haven't had a bunch of them. We have had seven over the history of the department I believe. But it helps remind us that these guys are out there everyday putting their lives on the line for us."
Close to 200 runners were up bright and early to support the Alumni Association, as the organization uses the event as a fundraiser to assist the police department throughout the year.
