WACO, Texas (KWTX) Several students and two adults are safe after a school bus went up in flames Wednesday evening.

Rapoport Academy Superintendent Alexis Neumann said Thursday the bus was carrying 18 students and two staff members when quickly overheated.

The staff got the kids off the bus and that is when the engine caught fire, Neumann said.

The fire was reported around 7 p.m. Wednesday on a Rapoport Academy Public School bus in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 and Waco Drive.

Everyone made it off the bus safely.

Neumann said another bus was brought in and the cross country team was transported back to campus.

The superintendent also said students at the school had just completed their annual bus safety and evacuation drill.
