WEST, Texas (KWTX) Thanksgiving turned criminal in West after several vehicles and a home, all left unlocked, were burglarized overnight.

“Two young boys, bored on their holiday, decided it would be fun to break into vehicles and a home,” said West Police Chief Darryl Barton.

Barton said police tracked down and detained two persons of interest in the case, both teenagers from the West area.

One of them was Jacob Claridy, 17, who was taken to the McLennan County Jail on unrelated drug charges, however, Barton said other charges against him are pending.

He remained in the McLennan County Jail Friday night on an instanter bond.

A 16-year-old male was also detained, but the juvenile was later released to a parent pending further investigation.

“There is a lot of evidence to process and witness statements to be obtained before warrants can be obtained,” said Barton.

All the burglaries happened on the north side of town, with most of the vehicles being hit between the 800 and 1200 blocks of N. Reagan St.

“In every case the vehicles were left unsecured,” said Barton. “The home was entered through an unlocked window.”

Barton wanted to remind residents to secure their vehicles and houses when away from them.

“West is blessed with a low crime rate,” said Barton. “But crime can happen anywhere as was pointed out last (Thursday) night.”

Some of the property was recovered, however, Barton said there could be more victims out there.

Potential victims are asked to contact West PD dispatch at (254) 757-5222.

The investigation is ongoing.
