Elijah St. John's wife, Mary, passed away Saturday morning surrounded by family and friends.

She was taken to a Temple clinic for stomach problems, the diagnosis was shocking and the prognosis was grim.

“Doctors did a blood test and found her liver was shutting down and they transferred us to the ICU at Baylor Scott & White in Temple,” St. John said.

Diagnosed with acute liver failure, the mother of two was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent dialysis, but doctors told her husband she needed a transplant.

The couple found a donor and a transplant team, according to a social media post, and St. John says the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston was willing to accept his wife of eight years as a patient.

St. John turned to social media in search of support, and thousands shared his post asking for help for the love of his life.
