A woman who jumped from a highway bridge Wednesday night in what evidently was a suicide attempt was taken to a local hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman jumped from the State Highway 6 access road overpass onto eastbound West Waco Drive just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of West Loop 340 and Waco Drive near the Richland Mall, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
She suffered a broken leg, Swanton said, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment and for a mental health evaluation.
The eastbound lanes of West Waco Drive were closed until around 8:30 p.m. because of the incident.
