Gibbs who has SMA type 3 a condition similar to the spinal muscular atrophy or SMA type 2, with which Faith was diagnosed.
It's a rare and sometimes fatal disease that causes muscle wasting and weakness.
On Friday, Gibbs read a book, “Zac’s Play Day,” to Faith’s second-grade class during Community Reads Day at the school.
The book was written to explain SMA to children in an entertaining way.
"I think it's important that kids know about these different diseases and that people are different and that they are exposed to that during childhood," Gibbs said.
For Faith it was a relief to have her friends know about her condition in more detail.
"They finally know why I am in a wheelchair and they have been asking me and it gets annoying, but now they know why."
Lauren remembered her days in grade school.
"Knowing I was different and all of my friends were playing sports it was definitely challenging to go through,” she said.
