BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Ten years ago, Jack Chapman started a pole vaulting event called the Expo Explosion.
In 2009, it featured 72 jumpers. Saturday, the Bell County Expo Center featured 350 athletes from all across the country.
"It being so close to home is great," Gatesville senior Kyle Stifflemire said. "Us hosting the event is even better. We're one of the best events in the nation. I'm not trying to brag, but it's just one of the things we are. I love hosting it. I'm proud of it."
The club pole vaulting event seems to grow each year, and that's good news for local jumpers who want to face tougher competition.
"All the people that it brings in, that's the funnest (sic) part, and the competition," Gatesville junior Jordan Morse said. "A lot of the meets are five or six people in the track season because I go to a smaller school. The competition for indoor season is bigger and a lot more people."
