BELLMEAD, Texas La Vega comes into the 2019 season after winning a second state championship in four years last fall.
The Pirates rolled to a state championship after some minor struggles very early in the season. The Pirates had talent everywhere and on both sides of the ball. This year, some of that talent returns and there are some young guys in the lineup as well.
Offensively, the Pirates are confident. The offensive line is a fairly veteran group, quarterback Ara Rauls III returns for his junior season, and playmakers Jar'quae Walton and Demicco Chambliss are back as well.
Defensively is where the Pirates will be younger this year and that's a concern heading into the season. They still expect to be talented it's just a matter of getting varsity reps for some guys.
La Vega still starts the year as a district title favorite and among the favorites to win a 4A state title.
