SALADO, Texas (KWTX) A year after going 12-2 and four rounds deep in the playoffs, the Salado Eagles went 4-6 last season, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
Alan Haire's squad was young last year...they started eight sophomores and started their QB Hutton Haire as a freshman....
But all that did is provide the eagles with experience..... And all of a sudden that youth turns into depth and veteran leadership....
The eagles will be returning five offensive starters including their running back Hunter Turk who rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.
The defense will be returning around the same number of starters as well.
Salado likes to play in the trenches. Most of their offense is focused on the running game, and they are going to have to really embrace that physical style of play if they want to compete in a really deep district.
Salado will start the season at Troy on the 30th.
