After signing contract extension, Rhule is 'committed to Baylor'

WACO, Texas (KWTX) After back-to-back offseasons with rumors of Matt Rhule to the NFL, it appears he's ready for those talks to be delayed until further notice.

The Bears' third-year head coach Monday addressed the announcement of his contract extension Sunday.

"Our current players are kind of walking around like, you know, in the back of their minds, 'Is this coaching staff going to be here,'" Rhule said. "Well, now they know we’re going to be here, so let’s get to work."

Baylor AD Mack Rhoades also mentioned that these discussions go back to before camp started, and they're happy to have taken care of this now.

"We know that Matt Rhule is an elite coach," Rhoades said. "Other people know that. We've got past experience, right? People are going to continue to knock on our door or his door. We're trying to do this in a proactive way that also made great sense."

"I'm excited for the future, I'm excited where we'll get to," Rhule said. "We're not there yet and we have a lot of of work to do. We're going to keep grinding day in and day out to make this program one of the best college football programs in the country on and off the field. I'm committed to Baylor, but also committed to beating Kansas State (this week)."
