TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The Duke University football team arrived Thursday morning for its game against Baylor University, a day earlier than anticipated.
The Blue Devils will take on the Bears on Saturday, but the team left early to avoid the wrath of Hurricane Florence.
The hurricane is expected to bring extensive wind and flood damage across the Carolinas.
“I want to say personally that our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who will be impacted by Hurricane Florence, including some of our families, but certainly those by the coast,” head coach David Cutcliffe said in a Duke press release.
“It’s very difficult to deal with Mother Nature. We hope there are no lives lost and minimal property damage. I know this is on many people’s minds. It’s a whole lot more important than a football game.”
The Bears host Duke at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at McLane Stadium.
