WACO, Texas (KWTX) The all-time series between Baylor and Texas Tech is about as even as you can among two teams with history dating back almost 100 years.
The Bears and Red Raiders have met 77 times, with each team winning 38 games along with a tie. But for the first time since McLane Stadium opened up, Tech will visit Waco after nearly a decade of neutral site meetings.
Baylor (5-0) couldn't have asked for a better start in the standings, and the college football world has been taking notice, placing the Bears at No. 22 in the AP Top 25 poll.
But Baylor is so focused on Texas Tech that some of the players had no idea that they were ranked.
"I didn't know we were ranked. That's kind of surprising," junior running back John Lovett said. "Outsiders might think we're focusing on Texas or Oklahoma, but we're worried about what's next, which is 1-0 against Texas Tech."
Texas Tech (3-2) has lost to undefeated Oklahoma and to 4-1 Arizona, but the Red Raiders' win over Oklahoma State got them back in the victory saddle.
Texas Tech was an underdog at home against Oklahoma State, and is in the same position again this week with Baylor currently 11-point favorites.
The Bears and Red Raiders kick off Saturday at 3 p.m. The Baylor Gameday pregame show broadcast begins at 1 p.m.
