Baylor baseball sweeps Cornell

Cole Haring had three hits and four RBIs, Davis Wendzel came up with his fifth multi-hit performance in seven games, and the Baylor Bears finished off a sweep of the Cornell Big Red with a 12-4 victory Sunday at Baylor Ballpark.

Baylor (7-0) trailed early when Will Simoneit hit a two-run home run off Bears starting pitcher Cody Bradford in the first inning.

The Bears responded in the bottom of the first with a two-run double by Davion Downey, who scored one of the seven runs that Baylor plated in the following inning.

Kyle Harper started the second-inning rally with his first collegiate home run -- a two-run shot to put Baylor ahead 4-2.

Wendzel's RBI double preceded Haring's three-run homer, which was the former MCC Highlander's second of the season. Ricky Martinez then capped off the seven-run frame with his first collegiate hit -- an RBI double.

Josh Bissonette and Haring each added RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively to push the Baylor lead to 11-2.

Cornell (0-3) dug into the deficit with two runs in the eighth before Richard Cunningham added a sac fly for the Bears.

Nick Loftin and Chase Wehsener added two hits, with the latter player finishing the weekend 7-for-13 with five RBIs.

Baylor will return to action Tuesday against Dallas Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
