WACO, Texas The Baylor Bears were on the field for the first time in the 2019 season Friday afternoon. Matt Rhule says the first practice was 3 hours on a hot field and he was happy to see his guys were physically ready.
Rhule also praised the leadership of his team. They went through several leadership building events in the summer and he says he believes that's paid off after what he saw on day number one.
Baylor is coming off a 7-6 season in Matt Rhule's second year at the helm. Most of the roster from last year is back this year especially on the offensive side of the ball at the skill positions.
Charlie Brewer is back at quarterback and for the first time in his career he is the unquestioned starter at that position and the leader of the offense. Brewer says he worked hard on all aspects of his game in the off-season and that he comes into his junior season bigger and stronger.
Baylor opens the regular season August 31st at home against Stephen F. Austin.
