WACO, Texas A pair of Baylor Bears were first round draft picks Monday night and Tuesday they talked about what it means to be taken that early in the draft.
Shea Langeliers went 9th to Atlanta, Davis Wendzel went 41st to Texas. Those two first round picks make a little program history for Baylor. And both players know how significant that is.
LANGELIERS: You know it's awesome, like Davis said we were coach Rod's first class that came in here and to have me and him come out of here first rounders it's huge for the program shows that hard work really does pay off.
TROY: Langeliers went ninth overall to the Atlanta Braves, it's a good fit he very well could be their catcher of the future.
LANGELIERS: "For me I'm still going to go in I've got to get better every day the same attitude I've had my whole baseball career just take it one day at a time and get better but to hear that from him was pretty special."
WENDZEL: "You know I feel like I'm from Texas in my heart so it's awesome I get to play for Texas now."
Both players celebrated with family and friends last night, then their teammates showed up making draft night even more special.
WENDZEL: "Rangers are awesome we've got a lot of fans on the team so that's really cool the guys were breaking out their jerseys last night."
LANGELIERS: "When they showed up and everyone was giving us hugs another very special moment and brings you to tears just guys you've been working so hard with for three years, become best friends with, brothers but when they show up and they're there for you it's awesome."
