WACO, Texas Shea Langeliers professional baseball dreams are coming true, the Baylor catcher was taken with the 9th overall pick Monday night in the MLB Draft.
Langeliers was taken by the Atlanta Braves ninth overall. Langeliers is coming off a big year for the Baylor Bears, he was dominant defensively from his catching position. He also had a good year offensively. He also had a great showing in the NCAA Tournament, setting a new Baylor and NCAA Tournament record with 11 rbi's in Baylor's win Saturday. Langeliers hit 3 home runs in that game and had 5 total hits.
Shea Langeliers hit .308 in the 2019 season, he had 10 home runs and 42 rbi's.
32 picks later, the Texas Rangers took another Baylor Bear. Davis Wendzel was drafted by the Rangers between the first and second rounds in the compensatory picks. Wendzel was the Co-Big 12 player of the year this season despite missing some time due to injury. He had a big offensive season and was among the best 3rd basemen in the nation defensively.
Wendzel joins Josh Jung of Texas Tech who was taken by the Rangers in the first round. Jung and Wendzel are the two players that shared Big 12 player of the year honors this spring.
