BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Next week, 18 athletes -- most from Belton ISD and some from Temple -- will represent central Texas at the 2018 AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa.
The athletes competing are in the 8-16 age range and will hit the road in a few vehicles immediately after competing in the T.A.A.F. state championships in College Station this week.
Belton Blaze President and Head Coach Otis Kent says the kids have come a long way since their first training sessions.
"Seeing the joy that they have being out here with each other, the camaraderie that they develop with the teamwork, it really makes it satisfying," Kent said. "It's not about winning the race as much as it is seeing them grow personally, every single one of them getting better every single week and seeing that confidence grow in each of them."
