Brewer's teammates expect a big junior campaign

ARLINGTON, Texas Football is nearly here. You could feel the excitement in the air at the final day of the big 12 media days. And with Baylor jumping from 1-11 to 7-6 last year, there is a lot to be excited about with their program! Including the emergence of Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer.

After appearing in only 8 games in 2017 Brewer had to fight and win the starting job last season and eventually led the team to a bowl game. This year coming into camp, the junior will be the unquestioned starter. And even though he wasn't present at media day his teammates and head coach had to answer a few questions about the central Texas native, and they had nothing but praise for the budding star.

Matt Rhule: I tell charlie to slide and he slides right into the guy. I tell him to get out of bounds and he stops. He's gonna play that and that's what makes him beloved by his teammates

Denzel Mims: I think he's the best quarterback I've ever seen and he shows it every day. He comes to compete everyday. He loves the game and he loves his team so he's going to everything he can do to make sure we win

JaMycal Hasty: man charlie gonna be a dog. I've been saying Charlie a savage. He's a winner. You know he's an ultimate competitor. He plays with so much fire. He plays with edge, and it's contagious. You want to go out there, you want to sell out for a guy like that.

Baylor offensive lineman Sam Tecklenburg also mentioned that the line has to keep Brewer upright. He was sacked the most of any big 12 qb last season. Expect that to be a point of emphasis next season. If they can do that, and get the running game established Brewer may be what a lot of Baylor fans think he can be, a superstar.
