AXTELL, Texas (KWTX) Kennedy Kalka is a senior at Axtell High School. The senior softball player has also exceeded in the classroom, sporting a No. 6 ranking among the Class of 2020.
"I’ve wanted to play college softball since I was 8 or 10," Kalka said. "I’ve played select since I was about 8 or 10 and that was my mentality all throughout those years."
Kalka reached her goal and is committed to playing softball at UMHB to join her former teammate at Axtell -- Kathryn Reed.
"I know that they’re ranked to win their conference," Kalka said. "I’m really hoping by the time me and the other recruits can get in there we can continue to go pretty far."
Kalka plans to study international business, and it was softball that led her to that decision.
"I’ve played on several select teams and I’ve traveled a lot," Kalka said. "I’ve really liked traveling and it’s kind of inspired me to pick the major that I was to pick. I’ve traveled all through out Texas but I really want to travel throughout the world and softball has been my inspiration."
"The whole team is really a mold of her," Axtell coach Tim Vannatta said. "She is a good and a great leader for the team, the community and she just shows up every day, does her job and helps people."
