Classroom Champions: La Vega's Aiyana Ephraim

WACO, Texas (KWTX) Aiyana Ephraim is always on the move. The La Vega senior doesn't just run track, though. She plays softball, basketball and volleyball.

"I think I'm good at all of them equally," Ephraim said. "I like volleyball because of the energy I get from it and it's exciting to me."

Aiyana is ranked sixth in her class and has a 4.3 weighted GPA. She's a part of the National Honor Society, and her time in the Early College High School program will allow her to earn an Associate's Degree before graduating from La Vega.

"She balances her time well, she never has to leave practice to study," La Vega coach Suzette Gill said. "She's a good student, takes care of her business, and she's a captain in the gym and the younger kids look up to her."

"It's important to get as many credits as I could so I can be ahead of the game in college and I can go to nursing school," Ephraim said. "After my four years, I'll have to go to nursing school."

Her college plan includes going to UMHB and eventually becoming a neonatal nurse.

"I like babies. They can't do anything for themselves and I'll be able to help them get to their new home and everything."
