WACO, Texas (KWTX) It's safe to say Canyon Hughes is a big fan of volleyball.
"I like the momentum of it," Hughes said. "No matter how far down you get, you can always come back."
The Moody High School senior has applied that fighter's mentality to the rest of her athletic endeavors as well. Last year, she was named All-District First Team in basketball and softball, winning the district championship in high jump, and being named district MVP in volleyball.
"She's a great leader on and off the court," Moody volleyball Lauren Nichols said. "She's always happy, always going. If someone messes up, she'll correct them and say, 'Hey, you did this wrong on the pass. You got it next time.'"
Off the court, Hughes is involved in National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, and somehow manages to squeeze in time for varsity cheer.
But Hughes loves to stay busy, and enjoys the opportunities different activities present her.
"(I enjoy) the diversity of people that I get to hang out with because some people don't do athletics," Hughes said. "Some of my friends are in other clubs that I do, so I get to see them and meet other people."
